# Will I lose power in an outage if I get solar panels?

## If you have solar panels installed and you do not have a battery, you will lose power during an outage. Here's why.

If you have solar panels installed and **you do not have a battery,** you will lose power during an outage. **Here's why this happens.**

When the grid goes down, your solar panels will automatically stop generating electricity to protect utility workers who are fixing the power lines. This means your home would not have access to power even if the sun is shining.

By installing a solar and battery system, you can **store surplus solar electricity in your battery** and keep your home powered without connecting to the grid, which keeps everyone safe. This way, your essential appliances can still run when the power goes out.
