What is the SGIP application process?
The SGIP application process has many steps and can take time. The good news is that we manage the entire thing so you don't have to. Let's dive in.
- There are several SGIP rebate programs available and each has its own set of requirements, so we'll start by checking your eligibility to determine which rebate you might qualify for.
- We'll review your electrical setup and energy usage so we can share a system proposal with you which includes estimated utility bill savings and how much backup power your system will provide in an outage.
- You'll sign your Haven Energy contract (ESA contract) which will show (in writing) that you'll receive a system through SGIP if your application is approved. Depending on your rebate, this system could be entirely no-cost or deeply discounted.
- We'll submit your SGIP application to the state, which includes a Reservation Request Form (RRF) that you have to sign. The RRF is the official piece of paper that allocates funding for your project and we can't get started until it is approved.
NOTE: Your utility program administrator (PA) sometimes requests additional information or that a correction be made to your application. If this happens, both you and Haven will be notified. We'll address the issue with the PA and follow up with you if anything is needed. You'll still keep your spot in the queue until the request is resubmitted. - Once your RRF is approved, we can start work on designing and installing your system. This includes site survey, permitting, and inspection. The approval process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, but can be longer depending on your PA's backlog of applications.
- After your system has been installed, inspected and you've received the Permission To Operate (PTO) from your utility, we'll ask you to sign an Incentive Claim Form (ICF). We'll submit this to release the SGIP funds that were reserved for your system.
As soon as we receive PTO, you can start enjoying the benefits of your system: guaranteed monthly bill savings and reliable, renewable power. Haven will continue to manage your system and answer any questions you have.
What happens if funds run out?
If SGIP funds are fully allocated, your utility program administrator may open a waitlist for projects if and when funds become available again. If the program is oversubscribed, the PA may close it entirely.
In addition to SGIP, Haven is also helping homeowners access new incentive programs for affordable clean power. If you've missed the boat on SGIP, don't worry. Check havenenergy.com for the latest programs we're supporting.
