# What is SGIP?

## SGIP, or the Self-Generation Incentive Program, is a state program that provides financial incentives to homeowners to install renewable energy technologies.

The **Self-Generation Incentive Program** (SGIP) is managed by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). SGIP provides financial incentives to homeowners to install renewable energy technologies like solar and battery systems.

The state set up SGIP to support clean, reliable energy solutions for homes and businesses, and to improve grid reliability. Through SGIP, you may qualify for low-cost or even no-cost solar and battery storage.

#### **SGIP has different types of rebates, depending on your qualifications:**

**Equity Resiliency (ER)**  
The Equity Resiliency rebate provides qualifying homeowners in California with a free battery system. You do not need to have solar panels already installed. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

- You must live in a Tier 2 or Tier 3 high fire risk area ***OR*** have experienced a certain number of public scheduled power shutoffs (PSPS) ***AND***
- Your annual income must be below a certain limit (based on county and household size) ***OR*** you must be enrolled in your utility's medical baseline program

**Residential Solar and Storage Equity (RSSE)**  
The RSSE rebate provides income-qualifying homeowners in California with a free solar and battery system (or standalone battery). The RSSE rebate has been almost fully reserved and we're now submitting applications to the state's waitlist.
