Before You Start

- You’ll need access to your Powerwall unit and your main electrical panel (or subpanel feeding the Powerwall).
Step-by-Step: Power Cycle Instructions
1. Turn Off the Powerwall Battery
Step 1.1: Locate your Tesla Powerwall battery, it's usually wall-mounted indoors or outdoors. Photo below:
Step 1.2: On the left side (facing the battery) of the Powerwall, look for a gray breaker-style switch.
Step 1.3: Flip the switch to OFF. This shuts off the battery's internal systems.
2. Turn Off the Breaker Feeding the Powerwall
Step 2.1: Go to your main electrical panel (A), Tesla Gateway (B), or subpanel (C). See photos below for reference.
A. Main electrical panel
B. Tesla Gateway
C. Subpanel
Step 2.2: Find the breaker labeled “Tesla Powerwall”, “Battery”, or similar.
Step 2.3: Flip that breaker to OFF. This completely shuts down power to the Powerwall.
3. Wait for 1 Minute
Step 3.1: Give your system a moment to rest; waiting 1 full minute helps everything reset properly.
4. Turn the System Back On
Step 4.1: Turn the Breaker Back ON
- Step 4.1.1: Go back to the breaker panel and flip the Powerwall breaker back to ON.
Step 4.2: Turn the Powerwall Switch Back ON
Step 4.3: You should hear the system hum slightly or see indicator lights as it boots up. This may take a few minutes.
5. Check the Tesla App
Step 5.1: Open your Tesla app.
Step 5.2: The Powerwall should show as “Connected” and display normal charging/discharging behavior.
Step 5.3: If it still shows as offline after 5–10 minutes, try restarting your phone or refreshing the app.
